Welcome to the Sentti & Tuuma website! We specialise in designer quilting and embroidery fabrics, high-quality threads, tools and notions we would like to use, too. Our style represents the most contemporary vibes in fabric patterns and colours as well as project patterns, and we hope you’ll feel equally inspired when browsing our selection. You can count on finding rainbow, greyscale and low-volume colour palettes here!
Our Location
Our little brick-and-mortar shop is located in the Lauttasaari neighbourhood of Helsinki, Finland, where we arrange exclusive showroom-style events and workshops. All shopping happens online, however, so we would love to deliver all across the European Union when something fabulous catches your eye. If you live nearby, we can arrange for a suitable time to pick up your order in person to avoid shipping costs.
Because we serve the EU, our primary marketing language is English. You find us in social media on Instagram and Pinterest at the moment.
The Meaning Of Sentti & Tuuma
Sentti is short for senttimetri or centimetre in Finnish, whereas tuuma means inch. Founder and owner Nina started quilting in 2010 and discovered quickly how quilt mathematics were far easier in inches. Glorious fabrics and patterns were also abundant.
For this reason, we don’t carry rulers in centimetres, but we do cut fabrics in the metric system as is customary in European shops, be it quilting or embroidery fabric.
The density of embroidery fabric such as Aida, evenweave and linen is also more convenient in inches, so we encourage you to dig out an inch ruler if you’ve never counted say 14 stitches per inch before. It’s a breeze!
Our Product Selection
A cornerstone of our philosophy is collaboration, so if you have suggestions for products to investigate and possibly add to our shop, please send us your tips through the Contact page. We’d happily take them into consideration! Amidst a continuous stream of new designers, patterns and notions to keep track of, it’s easy to miss a few good ones.
