After much thought we have changed our shipping policy from flat-rate fees to country-based. Striving to build a sustainable business means transparency and fairness for all among others, so we hope our news are met with understanding. This decision wasn’t easily made.
What Shipping From Finland Looks Like
Shipping costs from Finland vary greatly depending on where you want your parcel to be sent. Because selling quilting fabrics in particular is no lucrative business due to extremely competitive prices found across the Atlantic and distributors in the EU taking a nice piece in between, if the firm were to swallow these costs, we wouldn’t even break even.
We could also raise prices from 16-19 € per fabric metre by 10 € per metre, but that would quickly mean no business at all.
If our flat-rate fee were much higher so that some of you wouldn’t have to pay so much, it would mean other customers would pay for your parcel to reach you. Which is far from a fair alternative, too.
So instead of trying to force flat-rate shipping to work, we ask only for what we must pay our shipping partner. In the fees below, there are no packing materials or handling included, but those costs are still baked into product prices.
The prices are also the lowest weight categories only, which normally means up to 1-2 kg at the most, but working out a purely weight-based policy right now is too laborious for one person to figure out amidst all other day-to-day activities, so if you buy more at the same time, we will pay the difference.

Free Shipping
For this same reason we have decided not to offer free shipping above a certain order amount anymore, as it simply isn’t fair to those in locations with lowest shipping costs.
As stated above, due to the industry being what it is in the case of quilting fabrics, it also isn’t sustainable for us to swallow the higher shipping costs since there is very little room to begin with to cover costs let alone make profit.
Instead we may offer tweaked versions of free shipping in the future. Of course we continuously monitor cost lists, too, and will decrease prices if this becomes relevant thanks to logistics becoming more affordable.
Conclusion
This doesn’t feel like a particularly pleasant topic to me, but running a business means dealing with also the less vibrant parts so here we are.
Constructive feedback is welcome as always.
