Our much anticipated Kona Club is finally here! We begin in February with our Fat Quarter and half-metre bundles, featuring a selection of eight Kona Cotton solids by Robert Kaufman Fabrics.
Why A Club?
The aim of the club is to build your stash of Kona Cotton fabrics at a steady pace as well as add these to our permanent selection.
This means you can order the same bundles at a later time, too, or you can jump on-board whenever suits you. As for fabrics from the bolt, our aim is to keep the featured colours in stock at all times. Due to the pandemic, this isn’t entirely realistic, but you can count on fabrics being on backorder if not available right away.
Bundle Options
You can choose between eight Fat Quarters and helf-metre cuts.
The nifty shop extension also allows you to switch between these in your user account by upgrading a Fat Quarter subscription to a half-metre one, and downgrading a half-metre subscription to a Fat Quarter one.
Club Rules
There are detailed descriptions in the product listing itself of the product, the membership and the payment.
You find the shop language versions here: English, Finnish, and Swedish.
If you’re new to monthly subscriptions like this one, it’s entirely possible you have some further questions, so please don’t hesitate to reach out! It shouldn’t be because of technological challenges that you can’t join.
Fabric Palettes
Our first palette is bright and strong. The next two will match it by being medium and light in intensity, and thereafter we move on to colours with a dash of muted grey in them.
The letters on top are actual fabric swatches of Valentine, Tomato, Tangerine, Corn Yellow, Holly, Cyan, Riviera, and Heliotrope:
Each month you’ll see the same background letters, but new front letters here on the blog when our newest bundle is presented. Hopefully this will help you assess the individual colours a bit better compared to earlier palettes.
The idea is not only to pick matching fabrics for one month at a time, but also find matches between palettes.
The Pandemic And Its Effects
Our challenge lies in the distributor’s selection, which is slightly less than half the total amount of Kona Cottons. The other mountain is the pandemic, because usually fabrics not in stock take 6-8 weeks to reach the distributor from Kaufman printers, but now with logistics chains affected globally, it could take far longer.
The solution on our part is to plan very well in advance to allow for these extreme delivery times, but we can only do so much. Communication is key in community projects such as this club, so rest assured we will share crucial information as soon as possible.
Signing Up
The February bundle is already on its way to Finland, so on 1 February the stocks on each variant will change from zero to something shoppable.
The reason for not being able to join yet is found in the settings of the subscription extension. If you pay in January on a random day, you’ll be charged a recurring payment on 1 February (always the first day of the month via PayPal). That bundle is the February palette, whereas this first January payment would be perceived as a January palette.
Since the Kona Club starts in February rather than January, that second payment would have to be refunded immediately. Too much hassle for everyone.
So now, instead of being able to sign up before the month is over, I have to disappoint you by asking for a bit more patience still. Luckily it’s just a week though 🙂 And in the meantime you can create an account on our website as well as get your payment card sorted.
A side note to the payment date: if you start your subscription on 28 February, you’ll receive a February bundle in the mail. And on 1 March you’ll be charged for the March bundle. These would most likely be shipped in the same package for the sake of less environmental impact. Be mindful when budgeting, was the main point.
