Buying quilting fabrics is straight-forward only when you’ve figured out how a particular shop sells these goods, so let’s take a look at how the Sentti & Tuuma selection is offered.
Which measuring system is used?
We use the metric system. Fabrics are measured in metres and the increments we offer are 25 cm, 50 cm, 75 cm, 1 m, 1,25 m and so on.
In the drop-down menu on the product page, this looks like: 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00, 1.25 and so on.
Can I buy Fat Quarters?
Yes, of course! Fat Quarters (FQ) are an established fabric size in quilting and since you can buy FQs when travelling abroad or ordering from international webshops, we want to offer the same in Finland.
Type FQ in the box above the ”Add to Cart” button so we know to cut the fabric to this size for you.
But can’t I buy Skinny Quarters?
Yes, you can! If you prefer Skinny Quarters in your project, go ahead and type SQ in the box above the ”Add to Cart” button. This creates a note for the shop.
If you choose not to leave a note, we assume you’re okay with Skinny Quarters.
How do I know how much fabric is in stock?
We have chosen to make our stock public. It’s easier for you to plan stuff, if you can see how much is left, if you need to hurry up a lot and/or if there would be enough of a particular product to put together something large like a quilt back or binding.
The text is green and says ”[amount] varastossa” in Finnish, ”[amount] i lager” in Swedish and ”[amount] in stock” in English. Once we run out, the text turns red and informs ”Out of stock”.
If it says ”4.5 in stock”, we have 4,5 metres available. In the drop-down menu, it would be possible to choose 4.5 for maximum amount.
These texts are automated, including periods and commas, and while international standards are comma for numbers to denote decimal numbers starting, the system overrides these sometimes to show periods instead. We hope this mix isn’t making life difficult for you, but if you run into problems do send us a message!
What it looks like in practice
Here are screenshots for our language versions! Starting with Finnish:
Just the same on the Swedish language page:
And finally, English:
Once you’re ready to choose a particular fabric amount based on what’s in stock, open the drop-down menu (currently showing 1) next to ”Add to Basket”. When you’ve decided to choose 0.25 for 0,25 metres (25 cm), it will look like this:
Once 0.25 has been confirmed, you type FQ or SQ in the box above ”Add to Basket”:
Remember, if you make no choice, we will send you a Skinny Quarter.
If you need a refresher on FQ and SQ, scroll down the page a bit and this is what you’ll read on all product pages for quilting fabrics:
Editing Basket/Cart
So this is how to buy our quilting fabrics and the shortest amount 0,25 metres in particular. If you change your mind, you can edit your shopping cart still.
If you have questions, please post them in the comments below. You can ask in any of our three languages!
